Nature Springs from Her - Digital Print
This digital print is a representation of a previous woodburn piece. The image was inspired by the Ceiba tree, a sacred tree of our Boriken indigenous ancestors. It is believed to have a direct connection to the spirit world and the secrets of Atabey (mother earth). Ceiba not only represents regrowth; Ceiba is a witness – a witness to our history, colonization, struggle, protest, and resiliency. The image represents indigenous resiliency and reviving underlying roots. The roots beneath rise through her, a manifestation of Atabey (mother earth). She is decorated with our Taino indigenous symbols of water, mother earth, and female womb. Nature springs and regrows from her, even through trials and tribulation.... giving rise to what was never really lost.... just dormant. Today, we rise and reclaim what was written out of history (paper genocide), we reclaim our maternal lineages, and we say to the world “We are still here!”
